Dear SJCS Members and all friends from Zanzibar
Yesterday evening after enjoying a day's trip to France with Dr. Betty Spry, Alan Clapp, and my Betty, on our way back we were invited to Francis and Sally De Souza's home where we enjoyed a wonderful evening and a great dinner with plenty of laughter talking of the good old days in Zanzibar, and just by chance in general conversation Francis mentioned that their son in law Mark May was going to run the New York Marathon on the 7th November 2010.
I briefly mentioned to Francis and Sally whether we could sponsor Mark May to help us raise some funds for our St. Joseph's Church Renovation project to which Mark kindly gave his consent. It would be appreciated if all friends of Francis de Souza will kindly donate a few US/Can or £ sterling towards the Marathon Run which should be outside the normal fund raising project where many already are supporting.
As you all know Francis De Souza is a member of our UK Team helping to raise funds for our church. Meeting up Francis and Sally at their home was so exciting, viewing some great photographs of friends from Zanzibar during our good old days and equally managed to get a little background information of their son-in-law Mark May which follows below.
"Mark May - Born 26/08/1977 lived his childhood in Kent & Graduated from Leicester University
In 2002, the whole de Souza family, including young Mark, went on a most memorable safari to East Africa which covered 3 safari parks in Kenya, 2 in Tanzania and finally a visit to the "The island in the Sun" Zanzibar. He loved every moment of the entire trip.
Mark married Francis and Sally's daughter Bernadette Cheryl in September 2005, in Sandwich, Kent.
They first lived in Northampton City and then moved to their new home in August 2009, just north of the city.
Bernadette is Team Leader in the HR Dept. of Carlsberg in Northampton.
Mark is currently employed as Technical Manager (IT) for a firm of Solicitors in Northampton and his hobbies include running, hiking, camping, and of course an occasional visit to his local pub.
In 2006, Mark took part in his first London Marathon, which he successfully completed.
In 2010, Mark took part in his second London Marathon and successfully completed this too.
Mark is just about to run his third marathon, the New York Marathon on November 7, 2010 and both Francis and Sally will be going there to cheer him on.
His ambitions are to complete this and then do the Paris Marathon and after that take on a climb to the top of the mighty Kilimanjaro mountain in Tanzania, hopefully next year"

Benito and Betty say ... what a great young enterprising active sportsman Mark is and surely the De Souza familiy must be very proud. We all wish Mark the very best of Zanzibar luck in all his forthcoming activities and a million thanks to Mark for supporting our St. Joseph's Church project.
